"I wish that I could say that TWH was founded as a result of brilliant market research or indepth focus group testing .....but the reality is that TWH was created in late 2003 to solve what later became known as the "$500,000 opportunity."
The company I worked for at the time, Towsleys Promotional Marketing Group, provided all the promotional products for the Manitowoc Crane Group (MCG). When MCG purchased the Grove brand, they had also inherited The Grove Store with the aforementioned "$500,000 opportunity." The Grove Store had $250,000 of old model inventory that no one wanted to buy & $250,000 in new model inventory with no distribution channel to sell it. MCG asked Towsleys to solve this problem as a part of the overall MCG promotional products program.
As I look back over that first year, I remember needing a lot of help just to get started. I had no previous promotional model experience, so this company has truly been created from scratch. It has been interesting, however, to see how many previous work experiences & relationships have helped me on this journey. Please note that TWH would not have gotten off the ground in late 2003 without the advocacy and licensing approval from Tom Cioni (Manitowoc Crane Group) plus the distribution support from Chuck Sword (DHS Diecast). Together we did sell through the $500,000 inventory and then pondered what to do next ..."
